Book List for 2016

2016 Book List

My goals for 2016 are to read 1 fiction and 1 non-fiction book per month. The goal is more about consistency, achieving the monthly goal, than it is about front-loading ;-) If I read more books in one month, it doesn't mean that I get to slack off in the remaining months. 2 books a month, 24 books a year, 10 hours each on average. Come, read with me! It's not a huge goal, only about 2.7% of your yearly hours and your brain will thank you for it!

January Reading List

Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World

My non-fiction choice for January. This is my second reading of the book. Having completed it what feels like a year ago after being recommended by a good friend, Jeremy Dallman. The book immediately resonated with me and my personality and it was inspiring to see the possibilities if I put my mind to it.

I started while on vacation and got through the first 30%, so I'll commit to finishing this book this month!

Seveneves: A Novel

My fiction choice is another book I started back in 2015. It focuses on how society and technology come together to extend the longevity of the human race. I started reading this book before I read a biography on Elon Musk and then was drawn back with Musk's vision to establish a Mars colony. Only catalyzed further by, The Martian. You'll also find that it pairs very well with Bold. I can't guarantee every month will pair this well!

Reference Books (Previous Year or Backlog!)

Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future

This is a 2015 non-fiction I read in December while on vacation. Musk consistently creates new companies with impossible visions and then achieves them. Even some companies most of us have never heard of like Zip2 or X. We know him for PayPal mostly and then Tesla and SpaceX, but the guy accomplishes so much more. He attacks not just the foundation of our technology but also our understanding of how to build/run businesses and manage government regulations.
